Everett Franklin

About the Interviewee: 
Faculty Dept. of Hort. 1949-75- Fruit specialist, cold storage expert

Everett Franklin was a faculty member of the Department of Horticulture at the Ontario Agricultural College from 1949 until 1975, specializing in post-harvest physiology and storage of fruits and vegetables. He recounts his years as a young man in eastern Ontario, attending Kemptville Agricultural College, then becoming involved in apple production in several places in Ontario. He was in England in the army from 1940-1944, and on returning to Canada, entered the O.A.C., graduating in 1947. After obtaining a Masters degree from Guelph, he began a Ph.D. programme at the University of Toronto, but accepted a faculty position at Guelph in 1949 rather than completing his Ph.D. Following retirement, he spent three years in Iran advising on the establishment of a research station for post-harvest physiology.
