Cancellation Notice: Communication Abstracts

It is with regret that the Library announces that the database Communication Abstracts will no longer be available to Guelph users. Cancellation decisions are in most cases based on one or more of the following criteria: 

  • the need to manage the Library's budget within a financially challenging environment. The inflationary costs of scholarly information continue to rise annually, and the Library's budget is particularly impacted by currency fluctuations (over half of the Library's scholarly resources are paid for in U.S. funds)
  • an extensive overlap of content between two very similar resources or tools
  • past usage of the resource by University of Guelph students, faculty and staff (including the University of Guelph Humber)
  • alignment of a resource with the University's current or planned curricular and research programs
  • the scholarly importance of the resource (it's centrality to the discipline and to accreditation requirements)

The decision to cancel a resource is made only after considerable discussion and exploration of alternatives by the Library's Information Resources staff.

Date access will cease: September 15, 2015

Date of cancellation decision: June 19, 2015

  • Extensive overlap with the alternate resources listed below
  • Unlike the alternate resources listed below, Communication Abstracts does not provide full text for the articles that it indexes
  • usage levels are low in comparison to similar resources (high cost-per-use)
